As weather conditions have been fluctuating recently, the state of our outdoor grass areas can turn into
soft, muddy fields or frozen patches of ice. In order to maintain a safe learning and play environment for
our students and to prevent excessive sediment from being trekked indoors causing a number of safety
hazards in our classrooms and schools, sometimes we may:
❖ close all or part of a grassed area/field due to unsafe conditions at any time and communicate to
staff and students that due to field conditions, part or all of the grass area is closed; and
❖ remind students to change their shoes when going outside and then again upon entering the
school.
When the field has frozen patches of ice, the field will be closed as it may be unsafe for students/staff to
walk on. When this occurs, students will be asked to play on the pavement. On days like these, all play
equipment will stay indoors as we do not have enough space for all students to safely play.
All students are asked to have a pair of indoor shoes at school. This helps to minimize the chances of
slips or falls in the classroom. We thank our custodial staff for their hard work in maintaining our hallways
and staircase dry and free of debris after each recess.
