Winter Play and Recess Expectations

At St. Elizabeth Seton,  we encourage safe and fun play, especially during the winter months. It’s important for everyone to have a positive experience outdoors and that students remain mindful of peers so that we can all enjoy the snow. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for cold weather, including warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots, as all students are expected to go outside for recess. In cases where the temperature drops to -20 degrees with the wind chill, we will implement a modified recess plan to ensure safety. Let’s work together to keep our children warm and safe while they enjoy their time in the snow!

Key Guidelines:

  • Dress for the weather – wear boots, snow pants, jackets, coats, hats, mitts, gloves.
  • No snowball throwing – keep the snow fun and inclusive for all.
  • When the field is closed, no ball play on the pavement.
  • Stay safe: Keep hands and feet to self and use non-contact sports.
  • Stay within school boundaries and ask for help when needed.
  • Use respectful language and resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • Show kindness and cooperation with others.
