PEDICULOSIS – HEAD LICE

As we begin a new school year, we remind parents/guardians that this may be a good time to check your child’s head for pediculosis (lice). As you are aware, sometimes there may be a “lice alert” at a school, however, the whole school will not be affected and most likely the whole school will not be notified of an incident unless there is one in your child’s class. Where a case of pediculosis is confirmed, the most effective approach to minimize the spread is to have each student in the classroom, along with the child’s siblings, checked for nits/lice. For further information on this topic, please refer to Policy 210 in the York Catholic District School Board Policies.
