Black History Month

Dear Seton Families,

February is Black History Month. It is a time for Canadians to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation it is today. It is also an opportunity to recognize historic and present forms of anti-Black racism in Ontario and challenge negative stereotypes and systems of oppression.  During this month staff and students will be celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of Black Canadians, as well as exploring social justice around racism, through different aspects of the curriculum such as art, language, music, religion and social studies. As well, this Thursday, February 4, 2021, students will attend a virtual presentation by  Aubrey Clarke, a Black Canadian author who has written numerous popular books for youth and children.

Let us remember our shared responsibility to eliminate systemic barriers and racism not just this month but every day. God bless us as we walk this journey together.
